Rosa Mexicano sees in a grand celebration in grand style

14 August 2014:To mark the momentus national occasion of Mexican Independence Day, Rosa Mexicano is inviting food lovers from across the UAE community to join them with a feast of traditional Mexican cuisinefor the week running from 14-20 September.

With its outlets in both Dubai Mall and City Centre Mirdif serving authentic Mexican dishes, the restaurant will be serving a traditional menu specially-prepared for the celebration.

As Garo Chavoushian, Rosa Mexicano’s brand manager in Dubai explained  “The hero dish will be Chile Poblano Relleno, as it represents colors of the Mexican Flag. A very traditional dish of the country, it consists of roasted poblano chile filled with goat cheese, sautéed mushrooms and brown rice. To complete the mouthwatering combination of tastes, it is served with salsa ranchera, salsa verde, grilled asparagus and queso fresco cheese.”

Other traditional Mexican Independence Day dishes visitors to Rosa Mexicano might expect include the avocado dip Guacamole, Queso Fundido (a Mexican cheese fondue) and Menudo (a traditional Mexican beef stew).

“Completing the festive atmosphere will be a live band playing the wonderful sound of Mexican mariachi music,” said Chavoushian.

The occasion commemorates the Mexican War of Independence which began in September 1810 in the small town of Dolores, near Guanajuato. It was against the rule of the Spanish conquistadors which had commenced in the 1500’s.

Initially starting with just a few,and led by the Roman Catholic priest Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (today, a national hero), the revolution gained momentum and the Spanish were finally defeated in 1821.

Mexican Independence Day is celebrated every year on September 16, the date that Father Hidalgo first called the Mexican people the revolt.

Today it remains a huge occasion for the country andis celebrated with a fiesta (party). The towns are decorated with flags, flowers and coloured lights.

Special activities include rodeos, parades, bullfights, horseback rider performances and grand feasts. Statues of Father Hidalgo are also decorated with green, white and red flowers, the colours of the Mexican flag. These symbolise independence (green), religion (white) and union (red).
