JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia): Organisers of the exciting new Jeddah Rally have begun piecing together the route format and itinerary for Saudi Arabia's latest cross-country-style event, which will take its place in the international motor sport calendar from January 29-February 1, 2014.

The organising committee, which runs under the auspices of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation (SAMF), met for the first time this week to discuss the event in detail.

Present at the meeting were H.R.H. Prince Mishaal Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Mecca and the Head of the Higher Committee of Jeddah Rally. He chaired the meeting in the presence of H.R.H. Prince Sultan Bin Bander Al-Faisal, President of the SAMF.

One detail discussed at the meeting was confirmation that the event will take place on 29 Rabea Al-Awwal 1435H, which corresponds to a start date of January 30th, 2014 in the western calendar.

The rally will run for three days over a route that has been pieced together by a team of professionals working under the guidance of former FIA Middle East rally champion and the rally's Executive Manager Abdullah Bakhashab. Bakhashab addressed the meeting and outlined full details of the proposed format of the rally in a detailed presentation to committee members.

H.R.H. Prince Mishaal Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz directed the relevant parties to ensure the event was given the full suuport of all concerned given that Jeddah is an appropriate place for such important sporting events to take place.

The Higher Committee of the Jeddah Rally incorporates the General Presidency of Youth Welfare, Jeddah Municipality, the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiques in the Mecca region, a branch of the Saudi Red Crescent in Mecca, the Jeddah Police and Traffic Departments and Civil Defence Administration in Jeddah.
