DUBAI 04 July, 2013: An elite, expatriate football team will be jetting off to Denmark in July to compete in the DANA Youth Football World Cup. UAE Precor made history in 2010 when they became the first ever under-16 team to play in the Dubai Adult Football League.
The young team who made their mark internationally in 2008-2009 by winning the Wales International Super Cup Challenge in the boys' under-14 section, also became the first ever junior football team (under-15) from the UAE to compete in the Gothia Cup in Sweden. Now, they are showing their mettle as they face teams from countries around the world in the championship.
“Competing on an international level and developing talented athletes is the very reason this club started,” said Tarek Khalifa, manager and member of the volunteer coaching team of UAE Precor. “Playing internationally gives our boys the opportunity not only to measure and improve their skills but also to experience the thrill of playing top football teams around the world.”
The team leaves for the tournament at the end of July and is on the look-out for sponsors to assist. At the moment contributions are made by parents and the management committee.
“This type of exposure is amazing for our boys as it strengthens our relations with the international football community and showcases UAE youth soccer as a force to be reckoned with,” continued Khalifa.
Khalifa and other parents started the club in 2002 aiming to develop talent in the UAE regardless of nationality. The UAE Precor team consists of 60 footballers representing at least 18 different countries.
