Dubai - 14th of December 2021: The Spain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is delighted to announce its next spectacle, ‘Arab Music and the Muslim culture’ by Quinteto Aulos, a fascinating musical journey that unites two regions -Spain and the Arab World- whose cultures coexisted for more than seven hundred years.
The schedule of the performances of the Aulos Quintet will be on Friday 17th at 7:00 pm in the Earth Stage; and on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19, both at 6:00 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Spain Pavilion.
It is undeniable that Arab music and the Muslim culture itself have an endless and unfathomable influence in the tradition of Spanish music. In the first place, right from the names of the pieces, the composers guide us into a trip to our neighbouring North African and middle east countries, as they continously employ Arabic terminations among their titles. This is just a small but very clear detail that shows the influence of Arab culture, after having been together as a single kingdom for more than 700 years.
In the origin and development of Arab music we can already find influences from Persia and Byzantium, as well as from other primitive civilizations. The tradition of the Arab school is vastly diverse, and such wide range of diversity was also transfered to Spanish music and culture in the times of Al-Andalus, making us go back in time to find our origins.
