Abu Dhabi, 30 Sep. 2019:  Al Rahba Hospital, an affiliate of Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA), opened the first phase of the long-term unit; It is the first healthcare facility for Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) to be licensed by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi for long-stay patients. The project was divided into two phases, the first phase was activated containing 7 beds for long-term intubated patients and the second phase will include increasing the number of beds and expanding the project in the future.

The team consists of ICU consultants, highly experienced nurses, case coordinators, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation therapists, in addition to respiratory therapists, pharmacists, bed managers and other experienced healthcare professionals with clinical experience in health assessment and planning of care.

Mohammed Salem Al Hamli, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Al Rahba Hospital said: ‘establishing a special unit for long-stay patients as is globally recognized, achieves many humanitarian, social and health objectives. It is a strategic solution to prevent overcrowding in the other wards that were receiving long-stay cases; this could affect the quality of health care and the level of patient care.

Dr. Haifa Al Nahdi, Acting Medical Director, emphasized that Al Rahba Hospital is one of the centres licensed by the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi to receive such cases. Al Nahdi added that we aim to maintain the quality and safety of our patients as our team identifies health and social needs and helps families understand the available options.
