Ulissi Kick-starts Uae Team Emirates' Pursuit of Giro Glory

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - May 12, 2019: UAE Team Emirates kicked off their pursuit of Giro d’Italia glory, with Italian Diego Ulissi coming in 17th during today’s opening stage.
The 8km Individual Time Trial (ITT) saw riders set off an a flat route before taking on a tough 2km ascent to the finish, where Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma) took the stage win.
Commenting on his finish, Ulissi said: “I felt really good out there and put in a solid ride. I preferred to push hard in the first part because I knew that on the climb I would lose time to the pure climbers.”
Stage two will see the peloton set off from Bologna to the Tuscan town of Fucecchio, where spectators can expect to see a thrilling sprint finish, with UAE Team Emirates’ Fernando Gaviria hoping to be a main protagonist.
