If you are planning a rich vacation abroad, chockfull of exciting adventures, memorable nights, fun-filled days, and enough photos to fill your cameras to bursting, then Dubai is sure to be on your list of prospective destinations.
Now, you are on your vacation and have landed in Dubai. After checking into the hotel, what do you do next? Where do you go? Or if you don’t want to move from your comfortable bed and don’t want to sleep either, what do you do?
For one, you could hit a Beach. Dubai beaches are famous for scenic eateries, beachside bars, latest fashion boutiques, and regular celebrity activity. The Jumeirah Beach Dubai stretches for 1.7 km of warm sand and blue, sparkling waters.
Looking for something more adventurous? There’s always the Kite Beach, which offers an endless array of water sports and adventure activities for enthusiasts, including but not limited to kite surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, and bodyboarding.
After a hot day on the beach, one always needs somewhere to relax and indulge. Dubai malls are nothing less than paradise on earth for the ardent shopper. Not only do they have stores of renown from all over the world, but the Dubai mall, the largest of all, has many theme parks, eateries, and even an aquarium.
The range of shopping in Dubai is such that several retailers from surrounding countries make regular trips to the city to replenish their stocks with a variety of goods.
At the end of a long day spend at the beach and shopping, you come home to a cozy hotel but don’t wish to sleep. You want to kick back and relax. Interestingly, Dubai has every option, for everybody, at any time, it’s like playing at the well-known online casinos that pay the most generous bonuses. Next morning, where to now? How about the tallest building in the world? Sure, the city has many other things that go for it, but the Burj Khalifa can never be ignored. Part of the Guinness Book of World Records, this juggernaut stands at 829.8 meters and is the city’s most important point of interest.
The observation deck on the 124th floor is a must-visit when on a trip to the Burj. From this bird’s eye perspective, the spectacular skyline of the city is something all vacationers covet to see. The nighttime visits are particularly popular with photographers owing to the splendid city-light panoramas.
Following the technological innovations of the Burj, it is recommending experiencing a touch of history too. The Dubai Museum is housed in the renowned Al-Fahidi Fort. Beautifully constructed of coral-block walls held together with lime, with a roof of palm fronds, mud, and plaster, this fort has historically housed the royal family, served as a seat of government and as a prison, and is now home to the city’s premium museum.
The museum showcases the transformation of Dubai from a small fishing and pearling center to a hub of global businesses, fashion, and tourism. Also featured here are traditional boats, ancient weaponry, and shows presenting information about the day-to-day lives of early Arabs that lived in Dubai.
History can also be seen in the Bastakia Quarter (Old Dubai), built in the 19th century to house rich Persian merchants. Occupying the eastern portion of Bur Dubai along the Creek, the Quarter is composed of coral and limestone buildings, fitted with traditional Wind-towers. These towers were an old form of air conditioning, where the air trapped in the towers would funnel toward the house and be released through the open doors or windows. This allowed the inner atmosphere of these buildings to stay relatively cool.
The narrow streets of Old Dubai create a sense of being transported to another, by-gone time. The district houses the Majlis Gallery, showcasing collections of traditional Arabic ceramics and furniture, and the XVA Gallery, which has a contemporary art collection.
If you did your research and were prudent enough to set your vacation for the cool January and February months, the Dubai shopping festival will surely be the highlight of your visit. Again, showing the city to be a paradise for zealous shoppers, this one-month-long festival can turn into a month-long shopping spree if you are brave enough. Nearly every shop on every street is part of these festivities, selling different types of goods, from electronics to dresses, from gold ornaments to silver, from shoes to assorted hair accessories…whatever you need, the festival provides.
The glitz and glamour of Dubai can be seen ten-fold when visiting this festival at night. If there is one thing you will take from the city for sure, it is the unforgettable mark of this iconic fiesta preserved in your minds.
