Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 18, 2017: The Dubai Health Authority will continue its efforts to seek international accreditations and enhance quality management for its health facilities, said a top health official.
Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bin Kalban, CEO of Hospital Services Sector at the DHA, said: “The DHA understands the value and importance of medical quality management and international healthcare accreditations in order to achieve and maintain excellence in healthcare. A majority of our facilities have been accredited and reaccredited subsequently. From now until end of 2018, we are working on seeking certain accreditations / certifications for our health facilities.”
Bin Kalban said that the sector is currently pursuing JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation for ambulatory care standards in Dubai Diabetes Center and network accreditation for 10 (ten) Medical Fitness Services Centers in the first half of 2018. Furthermore, Dubai Hospital will pursue advanced JCI CCPC (Clinical Care Program Certification) for Management of AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction), Chronic Kidney Disease and End-stage Renal Failure while Latifa Hospital will work at Management of Neonatal Hypoglycemia in the immediate neonatal period (within 48 hours of birth) and Hatta Hospital will engage in Management of Hypertension.
He added that Rashid Hospital will renew JCI Certification for Management of AMI. JCI CCPC recognizes achievement of excellence in clinical care which supports DHA’s strategic programs to establish clinical centers of excellence. Achieving JCI certification will enhance patient care processes and clinical quality results.
Bin Kalban said the sector will also implement AHA (American Heart Association) GTWG (Get With The Guidelines) hospital quality improvement program for care of heart failure patients in Dubai Hospital, Rashid Hospital and Hatta Hospital. “This will further improve patient outcomes by enhancing adherence to latest evidence-based acute therapies and secondary preventive measures. Different tools will be accessible in real time to advance care for heart patients and benchmark with other hospitals in the US and the region.”
The sector is also pursuing certification for Integrated Management System as part of extension audit and certification for ISO 22301:2012 (Business Continuity Management System).
As per 2016 statistics, almost 80 per cent of the hospitals in Dubai are internationally accredited. In terms of DHA health facilities, all 11 DHA Primary Healthcare Centres have international accreditations. In 2016, DHA hospitals and health centres received an international healthcare accreditation for the fourth time in a row. Latifa Hospital, Dubai Hospital, Rashid Hospital and Hatta Hospital earned Joint Commission International’s (JCI’s) Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation and Thalassemia Centre earned JCI’s Gold Seal of Approval for Ambulatory Care Accreditation for the fourth time in a row. Airport Medical Centre earned JCI’s Gold Seal of Approval for Ambulatory Care Accreditation for the third time in a row. The hospitals and health centres achieved the accreditation for demonstrating continuous compliance with JCI’s internationally recognized standards in quality & safety of patient care and healthcare organization management.
