Chairing Member of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment sectors to oversee transformation of Dubai into a global platform for innovative industries
Dubai, UAE – January 19, 2017: In line with the recent directive from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to accelerate implementation of the Dubai Industrial Strategy in order to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global platform for sustainable businesses, the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment taskforce has held a number of meetings and workshops to identify key initiatives that will help drive growth and achieve the objectives of the Dubai Industrial Strategy.
A key enabler of Dubai Plan 2021, the strategy aims to establish the foundations of a sustainable dynamic economy based on research, knowledge, and development. This will help achieve the goal of making Dubai a unique investment destination, and will take the industrial sector into a new phase of growth that is compatible with the aspirations and vision of the UAE to maximise the contributions of this vital sector in the post-oil era.
Chaired by Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Executive Director of Dubai Science Park, a member of TECOM Group, the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment taskforce is expected to play an integral role in increasing investments in research and development and enhancing pharmaceutical infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities.

This collaboration complements our work at Dubai Science Park and we have a great responsibility to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector and to achieve a unified vision allowing us to promote Dubai's position as a global economic hub. The strategy, as outlined by our leadership, has clear objectives and initiatives to strengthen the competitive capabilities of the industrial sector and enhance industrial integration in Dubai.”
“The pharmaceutical and medical equipment sector is a key facet of Dubai’s industrial and manufacturing base and has the potential to drive significant medium to long-term economic growth. Through investing in advanced technology, collaborating with academia and research institutions, and equipping the next generation of science leaders with the skills needed to contribute to a knowledge-based economy, we aim to enhance research and development and establish local pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.”
