Dubai, United Arab Emirates, December 18, 2016: Rashid Hospital’s gastroenterology centre was selected by KPMG UK to represent the region in the documentation of good practise Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) care as part of the Quantum IBD project, which publishes perspectives on the principles of high-quality care in IBD.
KPMG UK carried out a study to help understand how to deliver good IBD care for patients and how to help improve care delivery across healthcare systems. A team of clinicians and research scientists from KPMG visited 18 reference centres throughout the world, including the IBD team at Rashid Hospital.
His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority said: “The DHA’s aim is to continue to provide specialised services to its population in line with international standards so that our population and visitors have access to high-quality healthcare that is highly specialised. This is in line with our vision and aligns with our medical tourism strategy.
“The certificate the centre received reinforces the high-quality specialised care provided by the centre. The selection of this centre in the MENA region highlights international standards of care and the quality and efficiency of medical and nursing staff as well as the adoption of the latest technologies in IBD medicine,” he added.
Dr Samir Al Awadhi, head of gastroenterology at Rashid hospital said the hospital was selected after extensive checks by specialised teams from KPMG UK.
He said the IBD treatment falls under the field of gastroenterology, which is a branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, which include the organs from mouth to anus, along the alimentary canal, are the focus of this specialty.
Al Awadhi said the centre follows high standards of care, has protocols in place and adopts the use of latest technology and these factors would have contributed for the centre’s selection.
