Increase in obesity and vitamin D deficiency among the UAE population causing bone related problems
Renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Yash Gulati, will discuss various means to bring relief to knee joint pain
Doctor’s visit scheduled for October 15-16; lecture to be followed by counselling at the hospital premises
Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, October 12, 2016: RAK Hospital, the bone and joint centre of excellence, will be hosting a lecture on “Freedom from knee joint pain” by renowned Consultant for Orthopaedic and Spine Surgery, Dr Yash Gulati on October 15, 2016, at the hospital premises in Ras Al Khaimah. The lecture, which is scheduled from 2pm to 3pm will be followed by free counselling on knee joint health for the first 20 registrations. Dr Gulati, who will also be available for consultation on October 16, will be discussing the various factors that lead to knee joint issues and the best ways to ease the pain, as well as preventive measures to avoid the bone problem.
RAK Hospital has also earned the distinction as UAE’s first healthcare institution to introduce gyroscope-based technology for a more accurate alignment in knee replacement surgeries. The new pin-less technique is not only more economical, but also increases the longevity of the implant, and ensures quick recovery.
“An advice that I constantly stress on is that we should never take knee pain lightly,” said Dr Yash Gulati, “Often it is an indication of a serious issue that can aggravate further if left unattended. Even slight swelling could be a warning sign of a more serious condition. The more common symptoms of knee joint problems include limping, locking of the knee, redness and swelling around the knee area, and the inability to extend the knee, etc., and it is best to consult a doctor when facing any of the above. Moreover, injuries can also do lasting harm to knee joints.”
Dr Raza Siddiqui, CEO Arabian Healthcare Group and Executive Director, RAK Hospital added: “Unfortunately, due to rising cases of obesity and vitamin D deficiency among the UAE population, we are witnessing increasing bone health issues. Knee joints need special attention and doctors often suggest specific exercises and procedures to reduce the pain and eventually find a more lasting form of relief through surgery. Post-surgical exercises for quick recovery are also an essential follow up, and we take pride in our Rehabilitation Centre, which offers various effective techniques to regain bone and muscle strength.
“At RAK Hospital, we are constantly trying to create awareness regarding the health issue, and the talk and consultation by Dr Gulati is in line with the initiative,” added Dr Raza Siddiqui.
RAK Hospital has always been at the forefront of raising various health concerns with the aim to educate the UAE residents on the best health practices and to help them follow a healthier lifestyle, free of diseases and illnesses. The hospital has conducted massive awareness campaigns on a number of health issues, including bone diseases, cardiac health, diabetes and rehabilitative care, among others.
