Total proceeds of AED19,650 will support charitable and humanitarian projects
Ajman, UAE, August 4, 2016: Proceeds from the auction of non-winning date fruits at the recently concluded Liwa Ajman Date Festival were donated to Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Foundation to support its charitable and humanitarian projects.
A total amount of AED19,650 were handed over to the Foundation by Saud Al Jasmi, President of Liwa Ajman Date Festival Committee and Naji Mohammed Najati, Events Executive of the Ajman Tourism Development Department, main organizer of the annual date festival.
According to Al Jasmi, the initiative is part of ATDD’s strategy to enhance partnership among charitable organisations. “We also aim to support the community as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) plan. We hope that the donation will help the underprivileged families in Ajman as well as the guardians and orphans sponsored by the Foundation.”
More than 1200 kilos of dates entered into the competition by local farmers but did not qualify to win the prize were auctioned to the public daily during the three day festival. Bidders bought several varieties of the dates like Al Khallas, Al Kunaizi, Al Barhi, Al Sheshe and Lulu.
The auction of the dates during the festival was initiated by ATDD this year and according to Al Jasmi, the daily auction received a lot of support from the visitors and residents who came to the festival, thus “we are planning to have a bigger auction next year.”
Ms Hadeel Al Kubaisy, Responsible Public Relation & Media received the donation for the Foundation.
