Dubai, UAE, February 21, 2016: To mark the collective and global celebration of International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day celebrated on 8 March and 21 March, the Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers is delighted to showcase the new series of contemporary portrait and figurative paintings of beautiful and symbolic women by Susan Brooker.
With this years International Women’s Day theme of Pledge For Parity in mind, Susan has created especially for this event a series of paintings called ‘More Than A Woman’ which depicts inspirational women proudly displaying their cultural heritage and indeed demonstrating that they are more than a woman.
Susan is a Dubai based artist who is known for her brightly coloured and vibrant portrait paintings of women. Susan’s previous collections have always focused just on the face, but for this series the paintings are more figurative. Susan stated: ‘I am honoured and thrilled to be chosen by the Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers Hotel to represent and support such a wonderful campaign as that of the International Women’s Day and most importantly the Mother’s day. I hope that my paintings of such impressive female role models help to connect women from all over the world’.
Commenting on the Art Exhibition, Fadeel Wehbe, the General Manager of Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers said: ‘We are pleased to have Susan exhibiting her work with us as well as help to support and promote International Women’s Day. This is Susan’s second solo exhibition in Dubai and we are pleased to help and nurture such a promising up-and-coming artist’.
Susan has exhibited in Dubai and London, and has paintings in private collections in Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Montenegro, United Kingdom, Greece and Belgium. Susan is also currently featured in Contemporary Art of Excellence 2015 (Vol. 1), authored by Global Art Agency (GAA).
The Art Exhibition ‘More than a Woman’ by Susan Brooker will be open on 7 March, 2016 and run at Pullman Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers, in hotel’s main lobby for one month until 7 April, 2016.
Reasons behind International Women’s Day:
The world has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation may feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality.
Many global corporations actively support IWD by running their own events and campaigns. For example, on 8 March search engine and media giant Google often changes its Goolge Doodle on its global search pages to honor IWD. Year on year IWD is certainly increasing in status.
