Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup

- International delegates and para-powerlifters arrive in Dubai ahead of next week’s Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup
Dubai, February 13, 2016 – International delegates and para-powerlifters from around the globe began to descend on the emirate here yesterday (Friday) morning ahead of next week’s Seventh Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup Dubai 2016.
The tournament, which will run from Monday (February 15th) to Friday (February 19th) at the Dubai Club for the Disabled in Al Qusais, is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and organized and supervised by the Dubai Club for the Disabled, with the support of strategic partners the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC) and in collaboration with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW), the DSC and the UAE Paralympic Committee.
Ahmed Al Hammadi, the Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Fazza Championships for the Disabled, welcomed the delegates and confirmed that all of the administrative and technical preparations for the tournament had been completed to the highest international standards.
Al Hammadi also named the 13-strong UAE squad for this meeting, which is as follows: Mohammed Khamis Khalaf, Ansaf Al Noaimi, Adel Shanbay, Nabil Abdul Karim, Haifa Naqbi, Moza Al Zayoudi, Maryam Al Zayoudi, Hamad Al Balooshi, Khurshid Abdullah, Mansour Al Mansouri, Ibrahim Khalil, Abdullah Al Naqbi and Ahmed Khamis.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Dr Ebtisam Al Suwaidi, the Chairman of the Media Committee for the Fazza Championships for the Disabled, commented: “The media’s perception, promotion and recognition of the Fazza Championships for the Disabled across audio, broadcast and print journalism is one of the most important elements of success for the tournaments, not only at a local level, but an international one as well. “That is achieved through clear, open and transparent communication with the media and by furnishing them with all of the necessary data for the championships: the results, statistical analysis and exclusive interviews with the heroes of this Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup. All of this is done in coordination with the Organizing Committees of the tournaments and the Information Office of the Fazza Championships.”
Al Suwaidi added: “With our understanding of the importance of the media as an essential partner in achieving success for sporting events, the Media Committee was keen to provide all facilities and services for journalists and media workers. We therefore have established media processing rooms at the residence of the delegations, the Al Bustan Centre and Residence, and the tournament venue itself at the Dubai Club for the Disabled in order to serve journalists and media delegations throughout the tournament.”
The tournament will be attended by as many as 210 para-powerlifters representing 42 nations, which are as follows: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Finland, France, Georgia, Ghana, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Oman, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Serbia , Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and tournament hosts the United Arab Emirates.
