Abu Dhabi UAE - 30 June 2015: According to the International Diabetes Federation’s Diabetes Atlas in 2014, around half of the estimated 387 million people living with diabetes worldwide are unaware because the general symptoms are so subtle they can be quite hard to recognise.
Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre says that a simple test can determine its presence, stressing that early detection and the adoption of lifestyle changes to diet and exercise can help prevent full-blown diabetes.
Good health maintenance is as simple and as smart as managing a balanced diet and taking moderate, regular exercise.
Dr Farhana Bin Lootah's Tips For A Healthy Lifestyle During Ramadan And Throughout The Year
• A healthy diet is crucial during Ramadan and throughout the year; keep it balanced and avoid fried and sugar-filled foods
• Exercise is very important during Ramadan. Try to take moderate exercise, like a brisk walk or climbing the stairs, each evening before breaking fast, and keep this up throughout the year, at least five days per week
• Drink plenty of water, avoiding sugar-filled drinks
• Watch your weight to avoid rapid weight gain during the Holy Month, and look to maintain a normal body weight through the year by adopting a healthy lifestyle
