Abu Dhabi resident artist Wilma Burton has been invited to participate in the Art Exhibition “Women and Peace 2015” at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris France. This international group exhibition starts June 29 until July 3, 2015 and will bring together professional artists concerned about peace and women in the world.
Wilma Burton born in Venezuela specializes in Healing Art and has been recognized by the International Museum of Women in the United States for helping to break wrongful stereotypes against Muslim women worldwide, using her art to increase understanding of the diverse realities of their lives.
“I think it is my duty as a woman to create awareness about issues affecting Muslim women everywhere such as portraying them as oppressed victims, or concentrating in their appearance versus who they really are and what they are able to accomplish as career women. Likewise, I want to bring attention to issues affecting other women such as in India where women are target of sexual violence among other acts of violence.” Stated the artist.
Art for Women and Peace 2015 brings together around thirty contemporary artists from around the world, representing a wide range of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, and drawing.
The organizers of the event believe that art plays a vital role in society linking together the artist and the intended audience of his works. The work of Art is from this point of view, a means of real union necessary for humanity and to support and encourage dialogue in conflicts resolution.
