July 2, 2014; Dubai, UAE……….Ramadan Night Market will witness the unveiling of distinguished Dubai based artist Akbar Saheb’s massive 38 paintings limited edition series depicting HH Sheikh Zayed’s life history. Dubai’s one and only night market during the holy month of Ramadan to be held at Zabeel Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre from 17-27 July 2014 would also have first ever display of artists’ tribute to Dubai’s Expo 2020 win – a bewitching oil and acrylic painting showcasing the country’s exponential growth and the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The painting features a portrait of Shaikh Mohammad next to a very prominent UAE map juxtaposed on the world atlas. A UAE flag towers in its centre. The event will also showcase exclusive portrait of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan at one of the main entrances of the show alongside Akbar’s works on UAE and its Royal families.
The 38 paintings series was created over 8 years, started in 1997 and completed in 2004, 1 new painting was planned for every subsequent year of HH Sheikh Zayed’s rule but had to be stopped due to his sad demise in 2004. These paintings are a visual tribute that tell the story of this great leader who helped not only in giving the UAE a strong global recognition and forge regional bonding, but also brought the people of the UAE together in a warm embrace. The limited edition of the paintings will be launched at the market and available for purchase, the price of single limited edition starts from Dhs 800 and goes up to Dhs. 80,000 for the entire set of 38 paintings.
The idea of painting the series on Shaikh Zayed struck Akbar in 1997. His fascination for Shaikh Zayed is almost obsessive. Inspired by the vision of this great leader and his commitment towards the rapid development of the UAE, he has paid a loving homage to Shaikh Zayed through 38 paintings, each of which symbolises a year of the late President’s glorious rule. Akbar spent years studying the life of Shaikh Zayed, reading every word about him and following each and every glorious achievement. Saheb’s other recent works include a series of seven paintings of Shaikh Mohammad which tediously captures admirable qualities of the Ruler of Dubai. The series is aptly called Visions. The paintings are done with acrylic colour and measure 60x48 inches each.
