    217 Turtles Hatch at EGA's Al Taweelah Beach

    United Arab Emirates, 6 September 2023: Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, today announced that 217 Hawksbill turtles have hatched at the company’s Al Taweelah beach this summer nesting season. Hawksbill turtles are critically endangered, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.  Each year, EGA’s Sustainability team and volunteers from across the company clear the beach of washed-up rubbish throughout the nesting season, monitor visiting turtles, and protect nests. Some 110 nests have been laid on the beach next to EGA’s operations since the programme began in 2011, with more than 7,200 turtles successfully hatched.     Hamdan bin Zayed Issues a Resolution on the Policy of Protected areas in Abu Dhabi

    Abu Dhabi, 30th May 2023: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), has issued Resolution No. (3) of 2023 on the policy of protected areas in Abu Dhabi, in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and in alignment with 2023 being declared the UAE’s Year of Sustainability.  Abu Dhabi is a leader on the federal and regional levels in terms of establishing and managing natural reserves, which are the most effective tool for protecting biodiversity.     Fujairah's Pristine Beach Witness Extraordinary Sea Turtle Nesting

    Fujairah, UAE - May 24, 2023: On World Turtle Day 2023, Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort has recently witnessed sea turtles laying eggs on its beach, with the support of Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA), Fujairah Research Centre (FRC) and Jumeirah Group’s Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP).     Exquisitely Preserved Embryo found inside Fossilised Dinosaur Egg

    A 72 to 66-million-year-old embryo found inside a fossilised dinosaur egg sheds new light on the link between the behaviour of modern birds and dinosaurs, according to a new study. The embryo, dubbed ‘Baby Yingliang’, was discovered in the Late Cretaceous rocks of Ganzhou, southern China and belongs to a toothless theropod dinosaur, or oviraptorosaur. Among the most complete dinosaur embryos ever found, the fossil suggests that these dinosaurs developed bird-like postures close to hatching.  Scientists found the posture of ‘Baby Yingliang’ unique among known dinosaur embryos — its head lies below the body, with the feet on either side and the back curled along the blunt end of the egg.     Birth of Rare Arabian Leopard Cub Marks Significant Milestone in Saving a Critically Endangered Species

    Saudi Arabia - 29, September 2021: The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) announces the birth of an Arabian leopard cub, offering hope for the revival of her critically endangered species.   The female cub was born on April 23. Her gender identification and first health check occurred on July 13. The cub is now one of 16 born in a captive-breeding programme at the Arabian Leopard Breeding Center in Taif, Saudi Arabia as part of a campaign to bring the animal back from near extinction.    Her species numbers fewer than 200 in the wild after centuries of habitat loss and poaching.     Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi Records a 22% Increase in the Number of Arabian Oryx in the Reserve in Al Dhafra Region

    Abu Dhabi, 6 June 2021:  The aerial survey for the Arabian Oryx Protected Area, carried out by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) last November, revealed a 22% increase in the number of Oryx in the Protected Area, in comparison to previous studies. This confirms the success of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Arabian Oryx Reintroduction Programme which was launched in 2007 with a goal to relocate the Arabian Oryx. Initially there was a herd of no more than 160, and today, the herd has successfully reached 946 heads. A specialist team from EAD conducted an aerial survey study to count the number of Arabian Oryx, Sand Gazelle and other species within the borders of the largest natural reserve in the UAE, which spans an area of 6,000 square kilometers.     Al Wathba Wetland Reserve to Temporarily Close to Protect Bird Nests

    Abu Dhabi, 25 March 2021: The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) today announced that Al Watbha Wetland Reserve will be temporarily closing on Wednesday 31st March until November 2021, due the bird nesting season that started early this year. The agency observed that flamingo nesting began in February, as opposed to March, and they have already recorded 1,000 nests, indicating that the nesting season will be successful.  To protect the nests EAD believes it is vital to close the Reserve, especially with the hot summer months approaching. Furthermore, EAD will also be performing maintenance and adjustments on the infrastructure of Al Wathba Wetland Reserve to improve the facilities and make it a more memorable experience for visitors.     Dubai, 29 January 2020:  The qualifying rounds for the Saluki Championship concluded on Tuesday at Dubai’s Al Marmoom racetrack. A total of 60 Salukis (race hounds) have qualified for the championship rounds which will take place on February 20.   Organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC), hundreds of Salukis participated in the qualifying rounds that took place for two days on January 27 and 28.
