UAE, 24 April, 2017- The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) revealed the recommendations of the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Conference that was held previously in Dubai under the patronage of His Excellency Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention

His Excellency (H.E.) Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Policy and Licensing of the Ministry of Health & Prevention shared that the conference came out with 10 recommendations as below:

1.    Importance of building trust in the critical role of testing medicines following registration and testing random samples from the field.

2.    Pharmacovigilance should be a culture in countries of our region and should be backed up by policies and regulations that support pharmacovigilance programs

3.    Importance of enhancing pharmacovigilance education programs among healthcare professionals in the countries of our region.

4.    Importance of including pharmacovigilance education in the academic curricula of medical and scientific schools and making it among the basics of education.

5.    Reinforcing the importance of pharmacovigilance programs in maintaining health and safety of the community and protecting it from adverse drug reactions and warnings.

6.    Reporting of adverse drug reactions should be an established culture among healthcare professional and should be done without embarrassment

7.    Public awareness on expected adverse drug reactions must be raised through enhanced health education.
8.    Reported adverse drug reactions must be categorized and separated according to originator medicine, generic, biological view the difference in their chemical compositions

9.    Enhancing the regulatory role of pharmacovigilance and supporting it with the policies that enhance its effectiveness globally

10.    Focus on the educational role of pharmacovigilance officers among the various healthcare establishments in the region.
