1964 stamp on space mission reflects HH Sheikh Rashid's foresight and Emirates Post's history of space stamps

Dubai, UAE, July 21, 2016:  A stamp issued in Dubai in 1964 to mark international ‘outer space achievements' has brought into focus the foresight of HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Father of Dubai, and also highlighted Emirates Post's rich history of issuing unique stamps on space missions.

The stamp that made headlines after HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, mentioned it on Twitter on the occasion of UAE Space Agency's second anniversary last week,  was issued in November 1964, to commemorate American astronauts' first trip to outer space, under the theme ‘Honouring Astronauts'.

HH Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter: “Dreams begin with ideas, a word, an image or even a postage stamp. As generations work to fulfil our dreams, we develop concrete realities.'

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Post Group Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Ashram commented: “We are proud of our illustrious history of creating innovative stamps on different themes, especially on space missions. These stamps are a fascinating commentary on the nation's amazing foresight at a time when the UAE was in the early stages of development.”

“The UAE has been issuing many stamps on space themes since that historic stamp was released. We now look forward to highlighting the UAE's role in space exploration in current times, especially by coordinating with UAE Space Agency, which is now actively involved in space exploration, including the launch of the ‘Hope Probe' to Mars in 2021, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE,” Mr. Al Ashram added.
