UAE, November 22, 2015 - The Supreme Legislation Committee (SLC) held the first meeting of the Administrative and Regulatory Legislative Committee at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. The meeting forms part of the ‘UAE Innovation Week' initiative and in response to the directives of H.H. President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to mark 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation.' The week also builds on the National Innovation Strategy which was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
The Administrative and Regulatory Legislative Committee was formed pursuant to Resolution No. (7) of 2015 issued by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Legislation Committee. The Committee studies and reviews draft legislation related to institutional regulation of government entities, administrative development, government excellence, smart government initiatives, human resources, and media affairs.
H.E. Mohammed Saif Al Muqbali, a Member of the Supreme Legislation Committee and Chairman of the Administrative and Regulatory Legislation Committee, headed the meeting that drew the participation of representatives from various government agencies such as Mohammed Juma Al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of SLC; Wasef Anagreh; Dr. Shukri Rajab Al Ashmawi; D. Ghassan Ghasoob; Reda Morjan Kasem; Dr. Ahmad AL Nuseirat; and Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Rahman Khalifa Al Mansouri.. The attendees discussed numerous administrative and regulatory legislation on media affairs and government excellence, in addition to draft legislation establishing government entities tasked with regulating and support innovations in Dubai. The meeting also enabled the attendees to present their proposals as part of their efforts to improve the legislative processes according to the highest standards of objectivity and in line with the Supreme Legislation Committee's vision of building an integrated legal system that supports Dubai's sustainable development plans.
H.E. Al Muqbali pointed out that innovation is at the center of the Supreme Legislation Committee's core priorities. H.E. again reaffirmed the Committee's commitment to the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to promote a culture of innovation and creativity in the legal and legislative sectors in line with the National Innovation Strategy developed to make the UAE one of the world's most innovative countries.
H.E. Ahmed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Legislation Committee, said: “We held the first meeting at Burj Khalifa as it highlights the country's culture of leadership and excellence on the international level. It is part of our initiatives specifically designed to support UAE Innovation Week, which was launched to stimulate innovations that complement the UAE's aspiration of becoming one of the world's leading countries. We vow to continuously generate new innovative ideas in our bid to establish a distinct legal environment and develop pioneering legislation to meet present requirements and anticipate future needs.”
