The Role
We are recruiting for a Head of Battery & Energy Storage to join a greenfield advanced aerospace programme based in Dubai. This is a senior engineering leadership role with responsibility for building the battery and energy storage capability from the ground up and delivering battery hardware through qualification and testing. You will own the delivery plan, schedule, cost, team, test capability and supplier performance for the battery domain. During the early phase of the programme, you will also remain technically hands on, acting as the pack architect and ensuring design decisions support the aircrafts performance, safety and certification objectives. Key Responsibilities • Build and lead the Battery & Energy Storage engineering team, recruiting specialist engineers in a highly competitive global market. • Own the battery development plan, schedule, estimates, resources and cost. • Develop cell characterisation, abuse, propagation and high voltage test capability. • Establish facilities, equipment, procedures and safety controls ahead of the qualification campaign. • Act as battery pack architect during the early programme phase, supporting pack sizing, layout and design reviews. • Lead delivery of battery hardware through development, testing and qualification. • Manage suppliers of cells and other long lead technical components, including recovery of underperforming deliveries. • Balance engineering resources across design, development and physical test activities. • Ensure safe execution of high voltage battery build and test activities. • Manage technical and programme interfaces with Propulsion, Structures and Airframe Integration. • Support development of sovereign in country battery assembly and test capability. • Ensure qualification evidence is delivered in line with aircraft certification and programme milestones. • Support the transition from development and qualification into production.

Requirements
We are looking for an experienced battery or energy storage engineering leader who combines strong programme delivery experience with genuine hands on battery pack engineering expertise. Essential Requirements • 12+ years experience in battery, energy storage or power systems engineering. • At least 5 years experience within airborne or equivalent safety critical applications. • Proven experience delivering battery hardware through a completed physical test campaign with accountability for the plan and schedule. • Experience establishing or significantly expanding battery test capability, including facilities, equipment, procedures and safety requirements. • Strong hands on battery pack architecture experience, including pack sizing and layout. • Experience with cell characterisation, abuse testing and propagation testing. • Strong knowledge of high voltage battery systems and safe high voltage working environments. • Experience managing suppliers of long lead technical components, including delivery recovery. • Experience with programme planning, estimating and cost ownership. • Ability to work effectively within a paired delivery and technical authority leadership model. Highly Desirable • eVTOL, electric or hybrid electric aircraft propulsion experience. • Greenfield engineering programme experience. • Experience establishing engineering or test capability within a new region. • Experience qualifying rechargeable lithium battery systems to recognised aviation airworthiness standards. • Hot climate battery operation and testing experience. • Experience supporting production ramp up. • Masters degree or other advanced engineering qualification.
