The Role Senior Shops Technician Job Purpose We are looking for an experienced Senior Shops Technician to lead day-to-day workshop operations and support maintenance activities in a petrochemical/oil & gas environment. The role is responsible for supervising workshop technicians, carrying out Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) overhauling and testing, hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing, fabrication support, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and industry standards. Key Responsibilities • Supervise and support workshop technicians and contractors to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely execution of work. • Perform and oversee PRV overhauling, inspection, testing, calibration, and certification. • Carry out hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing and maintain accurate testing documentation. • Review work orders, engineering drawings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) before starting work. • Ensure the correct use of spare parts, tools, testing equipment, and workshop resources. • Maintain workshop equipment, lapping machines, testing devices, and ensure excellent housekeeping standards. • Support fabrication, welding, piping, machine shop, tool crib, shutdown, turnaround, and emergency maintenance activities. • Coordinate with Maintenance, Production, QA/QC, Engineering, and HSE teams to ensure efficient workshop operations. • Participate in audits, prepare technical reports, update maintenance records, and use SAP PM to execute work orders. • Promote a strong safety culture and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Requirements Qualifications & Experience • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Bachelors degree preferred). • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in petrochemical, oil & gas, or heavy industrial maintenance. • Hands-on experience with PRV maintenance, pressure testing, fabrication, piping, and welding. • Ability to read P&IDs and isometric drawings. • Working knowledge of SAP PM and Permit-to-Work systems is an advantage. • Strong leadership, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills. • Welding certifications (ASME/API/BS) are preferred.
