The Role We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Environmental Engineer to ensure that all marine construction, offshore, and infrastructure projects comply with environmental regulations and sustainability standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing environmental impact assessments, monitoring programs, permitting, and providing technical guidance to project teams to minimize environmental risks. Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP) for marine and offshore projects Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for project activities, identifying potential environmental impacts and developing mitigation measures Ensure all project activities comply with local environmental laws, regulations (e.g., Ministry of Environment, EPA), and international standards (ISO 14001:2015) Coordinate with regulatory authorities for environmental permits, licenses, and approvals including Consent to Operate (CTO) Monitor and manage the impact of marine construction activities on ecosystems including coral reefs, mangroves, and marine fauna Conduct water and sediment quality testing before, during, and after marine construction Oversee waste management generated from marine construction projects including hazardous and non-hazardous waste Participate in Environmental Risk Assessment workshops (ENVID) and maintain the Environmental Risk Register (ERR) Review and endorse environmental studies including baseline surveys, modeling studies, and assessment reports Provide technical environmental support across design, fabrication, construction, installation, and commissioning phases Monitor contractor compliance with environmental requirements through audits, inspections, and performance reviews Track and report environmental performance data including air emissions, water quality, waste management, and greenhouse gases Develop and review key environmental plans including Waste Management Plans (WMP) and Oil Spill Response Plans Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies on environmental matters Provide environmental training and awareness to project teams and contractors Stay updated on environmental regulations and industry best practices
Requirements Qualifications & Experience: Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field Minimum 5-8 years of experience in environmental engineering within marine construction, offshore, or oil & gas industries Experience with offshore greenfield and brownfield projects is highly preferred Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and compliance requirements in the GCC region or relevant jurisdiction Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) across project lifecycles Familiarity with ISO 14001:2015 environmental management standards Proficiency in environmental monitoring and reporting tools Valid offshore survival certificates (BOSIET/HUET) if required Fluency in English; Arabic or Hindi/Urdu is a plus Professional membership (e.g., IEMA, IAIA) is an advantage Postgraduate degree in Environmental Engineering is preferred Required Skills: Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards Experience in environmental permitting and regulatory liaison Understanding of marine and coastal ecosystems and environmental impact mitigation Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Strong communication and report writing skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities Attention to detail for compliance and documentation Team collboration with project, engineering, and HSE teams
