The last activities of “The World in Ramadan” concluded on Monday evening at the waterfalls area of Dubai Mall. The event was organized by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, under the theme 'Ramadan Dubai…Compassion and Coexistence'.
The three-week activity (1-22 Ramadan) attracted many visitors and communities living in the UAE, including Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, India and some European countries.
'The World in Ramadan is one of the highlights of the Ramadan Dubai program,' said Sheikha Al Marri, Head of the Media and Communication team of the Ramadan Organizing Committee. She further said, “The platform included a variety of activity areas, including the traditional heritage photography corner, the Arabic calligraphy and painting corner where they can have their names written in beautiful Kufic script and other authentic Arabic fonts, and where painting on glass, drawing on the skin and oil painting are done, workshops for children corner, handicrafts corner, theater area which included many traditional competitions and games, Harati, and poetry reading, in addition to the presentation of the cultures, customs and traditions of peoples, in order to shed light on the cultures and customs of the peoples and the most common practices they used during the holy month of Ramadan. The activity also allocated days to each community from Iraq, Philippines, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, and China.
Al Marri added that one of the most important activities of the 'The World in Ramadan' was the Zayed Day, where a mural was erected with the image of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, using flowers. All the nationalities, race and ages participated by filling flowers throughout the day until the picture was completed, and on its side were filled flowers symbolizing Ramadan and Dubai on tolerance, in addition to a short video featuring the most important periods in the life of the late Sheikh Zayed and his most famous words. There were also games and competitions held and prizes and gifts were distributed.
Among the most prominent events in the 'The World in Ramadan' is a special ceremony to honour new Muslims who converted to Islam recently and during the holy month of Ramadan 1440 H, in the presence of the UAE Knights of Tolerance.
The ceremony included an excerpt from the stories of new Muslims who expressed their happiness at embracing the Islamic religion after witnessing and living on the land of the good and peaceful UAE and touching the values of tolerance, brotherhood, compassion, love, justice and equality. The ceremony also included the announcement of a number of new Muslims who were given certificates by the Department.
Al Marri pointed out that the event carries a great and valuable message to spread the values of Islam and the spirit of tolerance between citizens and residents in the homeland from Arab and foreign communities, and invite all members of different communities to learn about the principles of our true religion.
