Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 30 May 2019: In an effort to celebrate the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, UAE Region has unveiled a wide range of humanitarian initiatives exemplifying the values of the company and Emirati society.
Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, said:
“The Holy Month of Ramadan is a time to remember the importance of giving, tolerance and prosperity. Under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai has become a city where millions of people from different cultures can coexist and work in a safe and harmonious environment, serving as a beacon for the rest of the world.
Due to the strong values present in Emirati society, this has been possible, and DP World is proud to be able to serve our city and nation by promoting these core values, that in turn will leave a positive impact on our people and society.”
During the blessed month of Ramadan, DP World, UAE Region launched several humanitarian and charity initiatives. This includes participation in the “Well of Hope” initiative to contribute 17,400 litres of water to tackle the issue of water scarcity around the world.
The Ramadan Iftar programme is an initiative set to distribute 200,250 meals during the holy month to over 17,000 deserving workers living in the company’s accommodation as well as the mosques located within the premises.
In addition, over 2,000 iftar boxes distributed daily to truck drivers entering and exiting Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone, while the Sahem Initiative supported 9,000 families and workers receiving Sahem boxes filled with food items contributed by the Free Zone staff. The initiative also seeked to donate Eid gifts to security guards as well as ancillary staff at the gates of the port and free zone.
Moreover, several community outreach programmes conducted throughout the course of the month, such as the Farhat Eid initiative, which involves DP World employees purchasing and donating Eid clothes and gifts for orphans and underprivileged families. Furthermore, DP World hosted an Iftar event with Emirati senior citizens, as well as an Iftar for its employees.
Other community-oriented programmes included educating people on Ramadan and Islam through the distribution of the Holy Quran to DP World operational staff members and hosting two lectures discussing the Holy Month with the employees.
