February 25, 2015. Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has concluded its successful participation in the 1st Arab Maritime Congress held recently in Jordan under the theme 'Towards an Arab Strategy for Maritime Transport.' The congress discussed key issues relating to the maritime transport sector in the Arab world. DMCA officials talked about Dubai's leading example of transitioning into a first-class global maritime center by adopting an integrated strategy of improving the components of the maritime sector, modernizing infrastructures, operations, and logistics, as well as diversifying investment opportunities to enhance the regional and international maritime sector's competitive advantage.

Heading the DMCA delegation was Executive Director Amer Ali, who expressed his pleasure on being part of one of the most important regional events that specializes in maritime transport and ports. Ali pointed out the value of using the congress as a platform to engage with experts, decision-makers and stakeholders of maritime affairs in the Arab World in order to achieve a sustainable and highly competitive Arab maritime sector. The executive director also highlighted the emerging opportunities and promising prospects within the maritime sector of the UAE, which continues to consolidate its status as a leading center of maritime excellence and marine innovation in the world.

Khalid Meftah, Director of Maritime Corporate Development at Dubai Maritime City Authority, joined a number of regional speakers in delivering a speech entitled 'Overview of the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre” during the 'Arab Ports in the Global Maritime Transportation System” panel discussion. Muftah shed light on the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre, which is the first quality initiative dedicated to the settlement of maritime disputes in the Middle East according to thoughtful and independent legal frameworks and regulatory controls.

For his part, Muftah said: 'Our involvement in the 1st Arab Maritime Congress gave us the opportunity to identify the importance of the local maritime sector, which is a fundamental pillar in promoting the economic development and meeting the future needs of the region. I am honored to have been included among a selection of regional speakers, tasked with enlightening the public regarding the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Center which is the first center in the Middle East to provide maritime arbitration services to resolve maritime disputes and promote investors' and stakeholders' confidence in the local marine system.”

The 1st Arab Maritime Congress discussed the crucial factors and emerging trends in the field of sea ports and maritime transport, and reviewed ways to support the planning of future strategies to develop and modernize the industry. The congress also reviewed major challenges, financial difficulties, and the role of marine insurance in the maritime transport industry in providing adequate insurance coverage for potential risks.
