DPS Academy introduces STEM within the curriculum
Last Update: Thursday, August 21, 2014 : 20:18 (+4GMT)
DPS Academy is proud to introduce the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) laboratory as a part of the ICSE curriculum. DPS Academy is the third Delhi Private School in UAE, an institution with a recognized academic heritage and excellence. This initiative is in collaboration with Atlab, one of the leading education training and learning solutions provider in the region.
"DPS Academy is the first school in the UAE to proactively introduce STEM as an additional pillar within the curriculum." The aim is to engineer a curriculum that caters to the needs of the 21st century learner. The school’s STEM Lab offer more than 70 project based STEM units suitable for Grades 3 – 10, each delivered through a combination of hands-on activities and individualized instruction. It is designed as a complete solution to deliver the ICSE curriculum through a combination of text, videos, ICT and real-world hands-on activities.
Every student’s unique learning style will be accommodated in the curriculum, whether a student is a kinesthetic or a visual learner. Children will learn through enquiry, exploration, questioning, debate, application, collaboration, challenge and not merely listening to what is taught on the black board. DPS Academy’s extensive Teaching Learning Materials (TLM) encourage teachers to lead the students, by overseeing and supervising the procedure of practical learning, while the students find their answers by utilizing the resources and modules provided by us. The modules use age appropriate equipment and kits from Atlab STEM Academy and come with teacher guides, student worksheets, videos, ready-to-use assessments and high quality consumable items, each packaged to cater to the needs of Basic, Average and Advanced achievers.
Mrs. Sandhya Awasthi, Principal, DPS Academy stated that “As parents you are left with little choice but to judge your child's progress with the marks and grades that they get. Your child's progress card does not tells the full story. Many students passing out of schools today do not possess adequate skill sets to make them employable. Skills such as analytical thinking, communication, contextual problem solving, are essential in a real work environment. Traditionally, science, engineering and mathematics have been taught as separate subjects, each featuring separate textbooks and practical exercises. Our STEM lab will integrate all these subjects along with technology to provide a hands-on, holistic approach to learning. We have designed a STEM hands-on curriculum, based on each child's learning capabilities.”
Mr. Dinesh Kothari, Pro-Vice Chairman, DPS Academy said that “We are continuously working across our network of schools and curriculums to improve student outcomes. This initiative is such an example. The STEM curriculum is designed to help every achiever realize their potential and facilitate their growth accordingly and enables them to perform better in aptitude tests and entrance examinations. If equipped with right knowledge and 21st century skill sets, your child will be an innovator and thought champion of the future. At DPS Academy, it is our endeavor to help our learners achieve their true potential”.
