myBee'ah's third annual Walkathon – taking place on April 22 at Sharjah's Al Qasba– will see thousands people of all ages, from various nationalities and cultures, come together to demonstrate their solidarity in the fight to save the environment
Sharjah, UAE, 20th APRIL, 2014: This April 22nd marks the annual celebration of Earth Day and the second anniversary of the launch of myBee'ah – a pioneering initiative designed to raise awareness of environmental issues and spearhead positive eco-change across the emirate of Sharjah. To honour this special occasion, Bee'ah, the Middle East's leading and award winning integrated environmental and waste management company, is hosting its third myBee'ah Walkathon; the event – held on
April 22 at Al Qasba - Sharjah – aims to draw attention to the importance of recycling and shed light on the beautification of the city of Sharjah.
Presented by Strategic Partner ENOC and Gold Sponsor Madina Mall, the three-kilometre Walkathon will start from Al Qasba at 4:00 pm and end at the Al-Majaz Waterfront at 8:00 pm. Other supporting partners include Dial-A-Battery, Lipton Clear Green, Air Arabia, Al Habtoor Motors, Aquafina, Crossfit Hour, Babyshop, Sharjah Cooperative Society, Shakespeare and Company, Mega Mall and Zulekha Hospital.
This year, thousands of people – all eager to contribute to Bee'ah's environmental movement – are expected to attend the Walk!
This Walkathon is your chance to do your part in saving the planet – after all, the event will serve as a powerful platform to highlight key environmental matters such as natural resource management and pollution prevention.
myBee'ah was inaugurated in 2012 to spark community engagement by hosting interactive engagements, activities and discussion panels – which encourage the adoption of the four R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Redeem). This, in turn, is set to further cement Sharjah's journey towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
During the April 22 Walkathon, a slew of outdoor activities – face painting, jumping mats, games and a photo booth – will also be held, in addition to a prestigious awards ceremony honouring loyal myBee'ah champions and dedicated volunteers.
Moreover, all attendees will be treated to various giveaways – comprising informative brochures and leaflets – created to enhance their environmental education.
“Today, environmental responsibility is critical to the sustainability of our planet,” said Khaled Al Huraimel, Group Chief Executive Officer, Bee'ah. “At Bee'ah, we have long believed that communities must come together – in partnership – to tackle environmental issues and curb alarming trends in waste management. We understand that education is a strong catalyst for change and the most important pillar of environmental progress. In that same vein, we are proud to be hosting our third annual myBee'ah Walkathon – a unique initiative that gives eco-enthusiasts the chance to leave an indelible mark on Sharjah's environmental agenda.”
Saeed Khoory, Chief Executive Officer of ENOC, echoed that statement adding, “Through our strategic partnership with myBee'ah's Earth Day Walkathon, we hope to strengthen awareness on the need to conserve the environment for our future generations and further rationalize the use of energy. We congratulate Bee'ah for proactively undertaking activities that add value to the community and the environment.”
“Madina Mall's corporate social responsibility programs set out to positively influence social and environmental issues affecting the communities around us,” explained Madina Mall's Marketing Manager, Hessa Al Serkal. “Reemphasizing our position as a conscientious corporate citizen, we are honored to be joining forces with myBee'ah's 2014 Walkathon initiative in the fight to protect the environment. We are delighted to be encouraging people to be part of a noble social cause.”
Asad Badami, Managing Director of Dial-A-Battery, the UAE's leading 24-hour emergency car battery replacement service, said: “Dial-A-Battery is committed to its responsibility to the community in which we operate. We are pleased to support Bee'ah in their efforts to bring continued awareness of environmental issues to the public, through their unique myBee'ah initiative.”
“Lipton Clear Green is a staunch supporter of healthy lifestyles and community-led initiatives,” stated Waqas Javed, Marketing Director Foods, Refreshments & Home Care, Unilever Gulf. “Our collaboration with Bee'ah – for the myBee'ah Walkathon – gives us an ideal platform to communicate our unwavering commitment towards the environment and sustainability.”
Indeed, since it's founding in 2007, Bee'ah has remained steadfast in its commitment to transforming environmental thoughts, attitudes and behaviours across communities – a goal that is perfectly in line with the company's plan to achieve zero-waste to landfill in Sharjah by 2015.
This objective – established in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah – will catapult the emirate into the Environmental Capital of the Middle East and make it the first Arab city ever to divert 100% of its waste from landfill.
