Abu Dhabi, 18 February 2019: Abu Dhabi Department of Education And Knowledge (ADEK) has launched a special tour of the educational program "lema?" In the Dhafra area as part of the UAE Innovation Month.
To celebrate the special month long calendar of innovative events a series of educational lema workshops took place in 9 schools in Al Dhafra, and for the first time ever, these were offered to the public at City Mall in Madinat Zayed
The lema? team offered the students and visitors numerous events and interactive workshops such as the Nutty Robot and Hydraulic Arm Challenge. The ‘Secrets of Space’ show, one of the most popular sessions in the history of the lema? programme, also made a welcome return as pupils got to explore the wonders of the solar system by entering a portable planetarium designed specifically for young students.
Ms. Fatima Al Zaabi, Special Project Manager at ADEK, said: “The Al Dhafra Region is always a favourite for the lema? crew as the students here are especially passionate about participating in the interactive experiments. The visit this year was particularly special for us as we took the programme to the public for the first time ever since lema?’s inception in 2012 with the exclusive sessions held at City Mall.
“Initiatives like lema? are absolutely vital in inspiring the young minds that will lead us in the future to think outside the box to improve the world we live in. It is exciting to see the difference these fun-filled workshops make in a student’s perception towards STEM subjects.”
Operated with the full backing of its Platinum Sponsor, Mubadala Investment Company, lema? (which means ‘why?’ in Arabic), is usually held over the course of six weeks, three times a year.
Each session is delivered by fully trained science communicators and specially designed versions of the show are run to ensure inclusion of pupils of determination.
Hitting the road from January 20th until February 28th 2019, the latest edition of the ‘lema?’ tour will create a chain reaction of infectious smiles and highly contagious learning breaks in schools across Abu Dhabi, the Al Ain Region and the Al Dhafra Region.
The latest batch of ‘lema?’ sessions will feature ‘Crazy Chemistry’ classes, the newest addition to the programme, to nurture the next generation of the scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs.
‘Radio Studio’ and ‘Energy Future’ classes along with the ‘Prepare for Take-off’ lessons will lead students on a voyage of discovery as they explore exciting topics that are fully grounded in essential STEM subjects.
Since its launch in 2012, the ‘lema?’ tour has brought interactive and STEM subject-focused sessions and workshops to thousands of youngsters in Grades 3 to 7 in public and private schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
