Consulate of Bangladesh won the 1st Diplomat Cricket Cup 2017

Dubai, UAE, January 24, 2017:  Under the patronage of Consul General of India, Dubai (CGI), Skyline University College, Sharjah (SUC) launched the first Diplomat Cricket Championship Cup on January 20-21, 2017 at SUC Cricket Ground. The Consulate of Bangladesh stood as the first winner of the tournament where the won by 130 runs against the Consulate of Pakistan. 

Other participating consulates were Consulate of India, Consulate of South Africa, Consulate of Bangladesh, Consulate of United States of America, Consulate of Sri Lanka, Consulate of Afghanistan, and Consulate of Pakistan. 

The Consul Generals who graced the occasion were H.E Anurag Bhushan of India, H.E. Syed Javed Hassan of Pakistan, H.E. Bodiruzzaman of Bangladesh, H.E. Charitha Yattogoda of Sri Lanka, representatives of Consulate General of South Africa, Afghanistan, and USA. 

SUC Director and COEC Mr. Nitin Anand and SUC Dean Dr. Amitabh Upadhya were present during the two-day sporting event and the Dean in his thanking note promised to continue this tournament as an annual event with enlarged participation. The CG of Bangladesh accepted to be the co-host of the next tournament. 

The two-day cricket event aimed to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, and harmonious relationship among the consulates of various countries in the UAE. In his statement, CGI Consul General Shri Anurag Bhushan said, “It is of great honor for CGI to patron such an event that is rooted mainly for the purpose of establishing good relationship with fellow consulates in the country. We are looking forward to more participation next year and we thank SUC for organizing the whole tournament.”

This initiative of CGI, Dubai and SUC extends to all participating consulates to provide a podium for them to establish an active, meritorious, and strong social and corporate relations amongst each other. 

CGI, Dubai is the official and permanent patron of the Diplomat Cricket Championship Cup and SUC as the official organizing partner of this annual event.

ABDUL LATIF, CONSULATE OF AFGHANISTAN. (He took 6 wickets in 6 overs at the cost of 33 runs) 

• Best Batsman of the tournament: 

MASOUD RANA, CONSULATE OF BANGLADESH. (He scored 99 runs)

• Man of the Match (final): 

MASOUD RANA, CONSULATE OF BANGLADESH. (He scored 34 runs in the final match)

• Player of the Tournament:
