October 5th 2016, Dubai – Melody Traylor, a teacher in the Collegiate American School of Dubai, has been selected as the inaugural winner of the “Teacher Appreciation” initiative, a program recently introduced by GCC / MENA education and learning publisher Alpha Publishing, UAE-based education company KDSL Global and Teach UAE Magazine, which enables teachers and educationalists to recognize their peers as special contributors in the fields of Education and Learning.

The initiative encourages teachers to nominate their colleagues that have inspired students and their fellow teaching staff, enhanced school environments or otherwise made a positive difference their specific centers of learning. The initiative was promoted to the almost 20,000 combined active social media followers of Teach UAE, Alpha Publishing and their distribution partner Smart Education, and having received many nominations from a wide variety of schools and colleges throughout the region the winner was selected by a panel of judges from Alpha Publishing, KDSL Global and Teach UAE.

Winner Melody Traylor, who is originally from Georgetown, Texas, USA and has been teaching in the region for 10 years, was nominated based on her “passion for teaching and learning”, her ability to “make learning fun” and for being an “active member of the school community”.

Melody herself commented “winning the award would not have been possible without the support of the exceptional team at CAS with whom I am very lucky to work, I feel that the award should go to the whole team and not to me alone”.

Alpha Publishing Managing Director Eyad Darawsheh said “Alpha Publishing is proud to be associated with the Teacher Appreciation Initiative; we strongly believe that there is a talented pool of teachers within the GCC and MENA region who contribute in a huge way to the successful futures of our students. It is fitting that teachers are recognized and applauded for the great work that they do, which often does not get the recognition it deserves, however we hope that the Teacher Appreciation Initiative can in a small way redress the balance.”

KDSL Global Managing Director Kevin Simpson commented “Congratulations to Melody on being selected as the first winner of the Teacher Appreciation program, which is a great vehicle for recognizing how teachers make a real difference to student achievement. We believe that encouraging educational leadership is key to enhancing the future prospects of our students, and in this respect anything that supports the dedication and commitment of teachers represents a positive step.”

Alpha Publishing recently launched their K-12 Mathematics series, which is a  multi-level course specifically adapted for students in GCC / MENA, with the syllabus and coursework based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
