Skyline University College (SUC) Teachers' Workshop: The Role of Technology in Education

Sharjah, UAE, May 21, 2016:  Skyline University College (SUC) has conducted a Teacher's Workshop in collaboration with The Young Vision magazine which was attended by more than a hundred school teachers from UAE on May 18, 2016. The key speaker of the event was Dr. Riktesh Srivastava, SUC Associate Professor for Information Systems, who addressed the role of technology in today's education in his comprehensive presentation.

The highlights of the discussion were mainly on teaching techniques that integrate the internet, social media, and new technologies. Dr. Riktesh has also presented factual studies on the effect of technology in a person's way of life, the role of social media in teaching effectiveness, and the incorporation of games in class interaction approach.

Attendees have shared their thoughts on the workshop and have been introduced to new academic strategies that they can use in their respective schools. “It helps for professional development of the teachers. He talked about some teaching techniques that will minimize the role of the teacher and maximize the role of the students. The workshop is very fruitful and I am very happy that I have attended,” shared Mr. Mohammad Abdul Latif, English Head of Department of Ajman Modern School. Ms. Farhena Faheem, ICT Coordinator of The City School International also stated, “The workshop is very helpful. I got so many ideas because I myself am an ICT person so we continuously find out new strategies. So it was very good.” However, some teachers voiced their expectations, “It was good but we were expecting more that is related to our curriculum. The second half of the session was good because it was almost related to our classroom management,” said Ms. Nisha Shamir of New Indian Modern School.

Overall, Ms. Nida Suhail, Math Teacher of Ajman Modern School, concluded, “The workshop is excellent, it was very informative. The best part of it is that we got to know how we can make use of technology more productively rather than just using Twitter or Facebook and how we make use of such games for the children interactive session especially in the primary level.”

SUC and The Young Vision have been consistently working together on various workshops for school teachers, counselors, and students with the aim to promote quality education and excellent teaching methodologies.
