MPLUS+ helps you prepare your home for the change in weather from hot to cool

Dubai, September 21, 2015: The change in weather in Dubai may not be very drastic, as the winters are pleasant rather than severe, however it does amount to a change in lifestyle for the few months of weather bliss. MPLUS+, the largest home maintenance service provider in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, brings you quick and easy DIY tips to ensure your home is as ready as it can be to welcome the change from summer to winter:

  • Drain the water heater by running the hot water (tap selection) for 15 to 20 minutes. – This will help clear out the water that has been stagnant all summer which may have accumulated bacteria and parasites.
  • Switch on the water heater to ensure that it is working, especially when the ambient temperatures are low and the water may be cold.
  • For those living in apartments, outdoor drain lines tend to be blocked from all the sand storms. Ensure they are unblocked by flushing them with water. In the event of rain which is a possibility this season, blocked drains cause water to flood the balcony and then seep into the property as it flows over the 1.5” cladding of the balcony sliding door, making it extremely crucial to prevent.
  • A quick check is essential for any cracks, gaps and leaks in your home, and to ensure they are sealed to avoid having them become points of entry for pests, as the change in weather may spell the entry of different pests and insects into your home.
  • Remove your outdoor equipment such as barbeque sets, chairs and tables and give them a good cleaning and dusting, and set them outside on your balcony or in your backyard.
  • Similarly, clear out your balcony or backyard. If used as a storage space during summer, ensure all things unused are brought back in and the rest are given a good dusting. Set up seating arrangements and a clear space for the Barbeque grill.
  • If your home tends to remain cool in the winters, enough to do without switching on the Air-conditioner, then save a few extra dirhams on you electricity bill, and invest in a portable fan which can be easily move from living room to bedroom in a jiffy!
  • Weatherproof your doors and windows and seal any cracks to prevent cold air from seeping in, ensuring the home doesn't become chilly.
