SKMC's Caregivers Join in Building a Culture of Prevention on Occupational Safety and Health

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) employees celebrated an awareness day (29 April) as part of the Environmental Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) that is in place to foster a safe work environment.

EHSMS is designed to ensure workers' safety and the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of employees by preventing ill health, controlling risks and the adaptation of work to people, and people to their work.

The theme of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work was ‘Join in Building a Culture of Prevention on Occupational Safety & Health'. Booths were on display to demonstrate information about EHSMS, and were designed and manned by employees to share their knowledge, participation and contribution in the successful implementation to EHSMS.

Through the protection of workers, the system also protects patients, visitors, suppliers, communities and other members of the public impacted by the SKMC workplace environment and activities. SKMC has had an approved EHSMS since 2012 and is continually assessing and improving their EHSMS system for the protection of the environment as well as their workers.

“Employees want to feel safe at work, not just physically but mentally and socially, as it helps prevent ill health and helps people complete their work. Active participation of SKMC employees and contractors in this awareness day demonstrates abundant communication and consultation in working together as a team to ensure EHSMS is fully implemented at SKMC,” said Dr. Aref Al Shehhi, Deputy CEO, SKMC.

SKMC, managed by Cleveland Clinic, is part of the SEHA Health System and owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
