Ahmed Bin Saeed: Certificates reinforce DSO pioneering effort

Dubai-UAE: 20 December, 2014 – Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis, the integrated free zone technology park, has received the ISO 50001:2011 and 14001. The former certification is for meeting the requirements in establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving its energy management system and performance, while the latter is for environmental management system.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, received the ISO certification from Andrzej Taczala of Lloyds Registered Quality Assurance (LRQA) in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Al Zarooni, Vice-Chairman and CEO of DSOA.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed said: “The ISO certification is another milestone for Dubai Silicon Oasis's efforts in integrating innovative and sustainable solutions. This was possible through shaping a conducive environment with the right structure and policies in the free zone. Such a certification also positions DSO as a pioneer of energy/environment efficiency and sustainability among its international counterparts.”

DSOA's latest achievement complements its earlier success of gaining the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 27001:2005 for quality management systems and implementing global standards in Information Security Management Systems at the high-tech park respectively.

Dr. Mohamed Al Zarooni said: “This certification is proof of DSOA's mature framework that allows developing policies for the efficient energy and environment management with an aim to set long term objectives. The authority is able to analyse data collected from energy consumption in order to improve its processes and make informed decisions on energy management.

He added by saying: “We have always been committed to our CSR strategy focused on contributing to a greener environment, improving the living standards for the community and upgrading human capital. These objectives are achievable only by continuously investing in energy solutions that align the DSO network with global standards. That, in turn, will bring transparency in our energy usage, improve energy management as well as translate into cost optimisation that will end up to be cost savings.”

ISO 50001 as well as ISO 14001 are based on the management system model of continual improvement that makes it easier for organizations to integrate energy and environment management into their overall efforts to improve quality.

Wholly-owned by the Government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone for companies producing semiconductors, microelectronics, and other high-tech products seeking to establish regional headquarters and centres of research and development in the Middle East and Africa.
