District Cooling contributes more than 20% of cooling system in Dubai

Dubai, UAE – 20  November 2014: DC Pro Engineering UAE, a leading authority in the field of district energy in the world and renowned sustainability leader in the field of Green Building MEP Designs in the region, bagged the ‘District Cooling Consultant of the Year' award for the third consecutive year at the Climate Control Awards held on 19 November 2014 at the Murooj Rotana Hotel.
The award was accepted by George Berbari, CEO of DC Pro.

According to Berbari, the GCC's cooling demand exceeded 45 million refrigeration tons, with district cooling contributing six percent of the entire region and more than 20 percent in Dubai. He mentioned that cooling demand is expected to increase by five to seven percent every year, while penetration of district cooling systems will increase by 20 percent annually or at a rate of 500,000 tons of new district cooling projects each year.

He also revealed that only three percent of district cooling runs on distributed local generation or tri-generation but that this is expected to increase dramatically to reach 20 percent of total district cooling capacity by 2025.

DC PRO Engineering holds the world record for the amount of district cooling projects designed with total capacity exceeding 2.2 million tons. Since its establishment, it has expanded beyond the current four offices serving the Middle East to two more in Washington and Montreal to serve North America and the Caribbean. It has also consider to further expanding their business past the far east into the Australian continent.

“It is truly an honor for DC Pro to win this award for the third consecutive year. This will surely put us in a bigger challenge to continue with our high standards within the district cooling sector,” Berbari said. “District cooling systems reduce power consumption as compared to traditional and predominantly used air cooled air-conditioning systems by around 50 per cent. It also reduces peak power demand by 60 percent when thermal storage is utilized.”

DC PRO's services are not only restricted to district cooling but also includes engineering design, consulting, Green Building MEP Design and renewable energy among others.
