VIP Visitors to Include Chairman of Country's Largest Private Media Group and Senior Industry Representatives

Mozambique Promising Country for Natural Gas Resources: US Energy Information Administration

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 06 November 2014 – As part of its focus on tapping into developing markets to help meet global energy demands, the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) event this year will host a high-profile delegation from the emerging economy of Mozambique.

The VIP visitors to ADIPEC 2014 will include a delegation from SOICO, the largest private media group in Mozambique, headed by its Chairman Daniel David; Salimo Abdula, Chairman of Intelec Holdings, a holding company strongly involved in the mining and energy sector; and senior executives from Petromoc, Mozambique's state-owned distributor of petroleum products.

Mozambique is one of the most promising countries in Africa for natural gas resources, according to the US Energy Information Administration, which cites proved natural gas resources of 100 trillion cubic feet and prolific natural gas discoveries since 2010. Mozambique's economic growth will accelerate to 8.6 per cent in 2015 from 7 percent in 2013, the World Bank estimates.

“Mozambique is an emerging economy with significant natural resources potential at a global scale. This will imply a transformation that our country will have to undergo. The United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi in particular are a strong reference of such a successful transformation,” said Daniel David, Chairman and CEO of SOICO Group.

“Our delegation is very enthusiastic about learning from this experience, meeting some of the key stakeholders and potentially exploring mutually beneficial opportunities.”

ADIPEC 2014 will also serve as a benchmark event for the planned Mozambique Economic Forum (MOFEZO), David added. MOFEZO is being developed to boost rapid, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Mozambique. MOFEZO's objectives include creating a platform for public and private decision makers to identify the main challenges to growth, proposing courses of action to overcome them and monitor the impact of defined lines of action.

“It is at events such as ADIPEC 2014 that that the major challenges in an industry are debated and all viewpoints considered. It is also at such events that important opportunities are shared and new partnerships and deals forged, allowing for the development of the entire sector,” said David.

“In Mozambique we are beginning to develop the sector, therefore the opportunities to partner up with experienced practices from across the value chain is very relevant.”

Driven by population growth and continued economic growth, global energy demand is expected to increase by approximately 35 per cent by 2040, according to the latest figures from US-based Exxon Mobil Corp.

The ADIPEC 2014 conference will host more than 400 speakers from 111 organisations, all coming together to exchange ideas on enhancing energy production through the development of sustainable models that meet international, regional or country specific needs.

This will be ADIPEC's largest conference programme to date, with a Ministerial Panel Session, Executive Panels and Plenary Sessions, Academic Sessions, special IT sessions, topical breakfasts and luncheons, a VIP programme geared towards senior industry representatives, and 81 technical sessions.

Christopher Hudson, Senior Vice President, Energy at dmg events, organisers of ADIPEC, said: “We are delighted to have such high-profile visitors from Mozambique at ADIPEC 2014, confirming that this event is an industry leader on a global as well as regional scale.”

“As demand for energy increases, the need to look at all possible resources and tap all opportunities also rises. The contribution of emerging markets like Mozambique is only going to become more important going forward.”

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, ADIPEC 2014 will be held from 10-13 November 2014 under the theme of “Challenges and Opportunities for the Next 30 Years”. ADIPEC 2014 is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and supported by the Ministry of Energy, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and the Abu Dhabi Chamber.
