Dubai, UAE, 21 October 2014: The Middle East Investor Relations Society today announced the appointment of Oliver Schutzmann as Chairman of the Board of Directors with effect from 27 November.
 
Mr Schutzmann, Head of Investor Relations at SHUAA Capital, will succeed Paul Reynolds, Managing Director at Rothschild, who will hand over the reins at the Society's flagship event - the 6th annual Middle East Investor Relations Society Conference and Awards Ceremony - taking place on 27 November 2014. Mr. Reynolds has been Chairman of the ME-IR Society since 2009 and will continue his involvement as a non-executive Board Member.
 
Paul Reynolds commented on Oliver Schutzmann's appointment as the new Chairman: “As one of the first investor relations professionals to arrive in the region and a leading promoter of international best practice IR since 2006, Oliver is a natural successor as Chairman. Oliver has contributed hugely to the development of the Society and IR profession across the Middle East, having served on the Board since the Society was formed in 2008 and launched the IR education and certification program in 2010. The Board and I are confident that his appointment will ensure the Society's continued success and enhance our ability to promote best practice as best practice itself becomes more widespread.”
 
“Under Paul's stewardship of, the Society has firmly established itself as the leading promoter of best practice standards in the Middle East and has been instrumental in creating a new level of excellence in the field of IR,” said Oliver Schutzmann.
 
Since 2009, the Society achieved a number of key milestones becoming the leading non-profit organization focused on promoting higher transparency, disclosure and governance standards, with a firm membership base right across the Middle East capital markets:
-          Institutionalization of the Society's management and governance
-          Establishment of seven country chapters and two working groups in different Middle East jurisdictions
-          Training of more than 150 and certification of over 100 IRO practitioners
-          Growing the Society's membership base from 30 corporates in 2009 to over 150 in 2014
 
Hosting successful IR events, conferences and workshops across several markets, ensuring knowledge transfer between investor relations professionals and financial market participants
“The Society's Board and members are very grateful for Paul's service and dedication to the Society,” continued Mr Schutzmann. “The Society Board and I look forward to continuing our close working relationship with all stakeholders. We remain dedicated to strengthening the bond between regional and international issuers, investor and intermediaries with the aim of enhancing the efficiency, attractiveness and global standing of the Middle East's capital markets.”
 
On behalf of the Board, the Chairman role provides oversight of the strategic development of the Society and the activities of the Society's General Manager, committees and country chapters.
