19 days left for artists to take part in the contest

Dubai, UAE, October 16, 2014: As the 3rd November deadline for entries to the 3rd Lexus Design Award annual competition is fast approaching, artists from the region have started submitting their works in the hope that their talent receives international recognition.

The global competition is open to varying competency levels including amateurs, arts students and professional designers. Architects, graphic artists, industrial and fashion designers from around the world compete each year in the contest which recognizes designs that go beyond the mastery of shape, form and function and become a process and solution to overcome challenges.

“First launched in 2013, Lexus Design Award is an international competition that aims to foster young creators who use design to solve problems, said Saud Abbasi, General Manager, Al-Futtaim Motors – Lexus, the exclusive distributor of Lexus vehicles in the UAE.

“The scheme has received worldwide attention for its unique mentoring program that enables applicants to produce working prototypes of their innovative ideas and we look forward to having a strong representation from the UAE”

Being intrinsic to life itself, “Senses” has been adopted as this year's edition's theme. “Senses” allows perception of the world through seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting, which automatically open a wide range of creative possibilities.

This theme is particularly relevant to Lexus, as the whole driving experience is about senses: from seeing the vehicle styling, to hearing the sound of the finely tuned engine, to feeling the luxurious leather seats, and smelling that “new car smell”. By considering this array of examples, Lexus seeks to appeal to the senses in an ever-unique manner.

The Lexus Design Award provides an opportunity for twelve finalists and their works to receive wide exposure in the local and international design community and beyond. In addition, four of the finalists ― twice as many as last year ― will receive support from international design mentors to develop their prototypes.
The creators of the four prototypes will present their designs at the Lexus booth at Milan Design Week 2015, before the Grand Prix winner is announced.

The artists who wish to take part in the contest are requested to fill in the applications at http://www.designboom.com/competition/lexus-design-award-2015/
