Dubai, September 16, 2014:Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF), a leading establishment that seeks to spread knowledge and support literary initiatives in the Arab world, today announced the official launch of the first phase of its Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW)with a training workshop on novel writing by Lebanese novelistNajawaBarakat.The workshop,attended by eight Emirati talents, has been organized for five days starting last Sunday.
Commenting on the opening of the first phase of the DIPW, H.E Jamal Bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said: “The DIPW program has officially startedwith the completion of the preparatory phase and the evaluation and selection of candidates. The launch of the program highlights the continuing efforts of MBRF towards empowering young writers and authors from

the UAE and across the Arab world in order to strengthen the dissemination of culture and knowledge in Arab societies.”
Speaking on the occasion, NajawaBarakat said: “We have taken the first step in the production of novels by young Emirati and Arab writers. I am happy to contribute on a personal and professional level to the Dubai International Writing Program'sefforts to train Arab talents and develop a new generation of Arab novelists.” 
The MBRF initiative aimed at enriching the cultural movement and intellectual development in the Arab world has won the appreciation of intellectuals, writers and cultural figures in the UAE.

H.E. Bilal Al Budoor, Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs and Director of the Arabic Language Protection Society, said: “Since ancient times, Arab writers have always been keen to master the best skills in writing. However, today, with the young generation moving away from the fields of culture, there is an urgent need for initiatives that highlight the value of writing and provide the necessary training in this field. DIPW must be commended for its successful efforts to empower young talents in the area of writing.”

Dr. IssaBastaki, President of University of Dubai, said: “Dubai International Program for Writing is a unique cultural initiative that will enhance the literary arena in the UAE and the region. With its courses and training workshops, the program offers a unique platform that provides young talents with the skills required to elevate the level of literary creativity and help enrich the collection of Arabic literary works.” 
H.E. Saeed Al Naboodah, Acting Director General of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “The Dubai International Writing Program is a qualitative leap in the development of the cultural and literary scene in the UAE. It will enable Emirati authors and young Arabs to benefit from the in-depth knowledge and experience of the renowned Lebanese Arab novelist NajwaBarakat, who plays a prominent role in enabling our talented youth to become professional authors. 
H.E. Al Naboodah added:“We look forward to supporting this ambitious initiative as it will help in identifying the most outstanding talent and providing them with integrated training and educational programmes. The initiative will also contribute to building cultural bridges, promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening partnership agreements. It will foster a greater understanding between the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and various organisations working in the publishing sector globally.”

Abdul Hameed Ahmad, Editor in Chief of Gulf News, said: “We congratulate MBRF for launching this innovative program that empowers young Arab writers. Youngsters who have the talent to write need support that goes beyond the areas of printing, publishing and distribution. They need the training and guidance of specialists and professional writers to help them enhance their creativity and open up new avenues in the literary field.”
Under the Dubai International Program for Writing, MBRF will form partnerships with leading literary figures and local experts to train candidates. Trainers will be allocated in various fields of writing, including literature, science and research.
The DIPW represents a key part of the activities and initiatives launched by the MBRF to enhance the capability of the intellectual and literary community. The program also supports national publishing houses which contribute to the enrichment of the cultural movement and intellectual activities in the UAE and the Arab world.
