Over 500 delegates already registered to attend the second annual gathering of cancer professionals in Abu Dhabi


Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 16 September 2014: Abu Dhabi will host the 2nd International Oncology Conference at St. Regis, Saadiyat Island on 18-19 September 2014 under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al-Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development,.

The theme of this year's conference is “changing landscape of cancer management by early detection and prevention.”

The 2nd International Oncology conference  has been organized by the Scientific Committee where over 30 leading cancer experts from the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, Germany Japan, Sweden, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, India and the UAE will convene to discuss cutting-edge scientific presentations on the most common cancers- breast cancer, lung cancer, gynecological cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and thyroid cancer.

Cancer is the leading cause of death and is responsible for one in every eight deaths worldwide. Modern healthcare in recent years has become focused on health maintenance and disease prevention, promoting healthy eating and exercising habits, as well as regular screenings to detect any problems at the early stages.

Non-communicable diseases such as cancer are on a steep rise and they can severely burden a country´s economy and ultimately early detection is the best measure currently possible to decrease rates of cancer.

“The work done by both Scientific Committee and organizing teams is of enormous importance,  and  the registration of over 500 delegates almost a week before the conference clearly reflects the interest of medical community  to establish global practices of early detection and prevention of cancer,” said Mr. Vinay Batra, Chairman  of  The Organizing Committee and  CEO Diagnostics Services, VPS Healthcare.

The unique feature of this conference is its multidisciplinary approach to screening, early detection and the treatment of cancer,” Mr. Batra continued. “The participative nature of the conference makes it more engaging for medical professionals where scientific sessions on five different types of cancers are divided into various segments for further exploration. Finally there is panel discussion after each session to facilitate cross interactions and ensure objectives are achieved.”     
The two-day conference will focus on recent advances, the consolidation of knowledge, and discussions on controversial issues regarding prevention, risk factors, imaging and screening, diagnosis, clinical management and new approaches to targeted therapy of cancer.

Mr. Khaled Afify, General Manager, Mena Conference, said that the conference is accredited by HAAD (Health Authority Abu Dhabi) for 14 Continuing Medical Education hours and will benefit doctors of all disciplines – Medical, Surgical and Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Radiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, General Practitioners, Researchers and other types of healthcare professionals interested in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

“This event will enhance the wealth of knowledge of all the participants in different fields and will be a blend of eminent speakers, practicing clinicians, industry professionals, researchers and students alike. Discussion on various imperative topics will add insight  to ponder and confer over the crux of today's scientific and technological issues regarding cancer,” said Mr. Khaled.

The event is organized by VPS Healthcare and supported by key players such as, Roche, Atlas Medical LLC, Gulf Med-Kibion, Toshiba, Varian Medical System, CISCO, ADNIC Insurance, Emergency Assistance Japan, Pfizer Oncology, MSD, SANDOZ, Zahrawi and several others leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic organizations.
