• September also Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, ideal time to start teaching kids about good nutrition and eating well
• Childhood obesity in the UAE alarming; one in three children is overweight or obese
Dubai, United Arab Emirates; August 13, 2014: Summer break is almost over and it's back-to-school season once again! Fresh start means another great opportunity to encourage a love of reading and learning for the kids. This year, how about taking another important step to prepare for their future by keeping the children on the right track to health by teaching them how to eat right?
Childhood obesity has become a big cause of concern worldwide. In the UAE, obesity among the youth has increased at an alarming rate, with one in three children found to be overweight or obese, based on a 2013 study led by Dr. Abdulla Al Junaibi, consultant endocrinologist at Zayed Military Hospital. The research, conducted on 1,440 children and teenagers aged 6 to 19, revealed that 14.2 per cent were overweight and a higher 19.8 per cent were obese, putting them at risk for chronic illnesses, including hypertension and diabetes. A variety of initiatives to address this concern have been put in place, including the observance of Childhood Obesity Awareness Month in September. Likewise, the UAE government has been active in taking up the fight against childhood obesity through various programs and campaigns.
Experts agree that schools play a critical role in helping end childhood obesity. Schools, with ample support from the parents, can plant the seeds for good nutrition amongst children and develop in them healthy eating habits. When children are consistently taught the same values about healthy eating at school and at home, they learn that nutrition is important. Parents who are determined to teach their kids to eat well, take into great consideration the food they eat while at school.

Nathalie Haddad, Founder and Managing Director, The Right Bite Nutrition and Catering Services L.L.C., said: “As parents, we all want to raise happy, confident and healthy children. We love to pamper our kids but when it comes to their health and nutrition, there should never be any concession. Teaching them healthy eating habits at a young age can reap benefits for them well into their adult life. We must understand the long-term implications of childhood obesity – the serious health consequences – so it is best that we help kids fully embrace the values of nutrition and balanced diet early.”
Right Bite also offers other programs to suit your fitness goals or dietary requirements. Among them are RenewYou, FuelUp, BalancedMom and SelectivePlus. The company also offers on-demand food delivery service for customers who are not subscribed to any Right Bite programs but want convenient, healthy food.
