Tips to Stay Hydrated During Summer

Water is crucial for human life. It accounts for around 70% of body weight, depending upon age. Loosing just 2% of this water leads to dehydration. Dehydration is the loss of water and salts essential for normal body function. Even a fluid loss of 1-2% can have adverse affect on physical and mental performance. It is essential we consume enough water every day to stay healthy and fit. 

Dehydration is a common problem during the summer and it is essential to stay cool during this period. It is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to making you feel tired. Some of the symptoms of dehydration include thirst, lethargy, headaches, dizziness, and confusion. Let's find out why it is important to stay hydrated and how to do the same:  

Why is Hydration important?

-    Water plays an important role in our body. It is a medium for all chemical reactions in the body and helps in regulating body temperature. 
-    Maintaining hydration provides vitality and flexibility of joints.
-    It also helps maintain the elasticity of the skin, and the sparkle in the eyes

How to avoid Dehydration?

-    Drinking Water: Water is a great way to stay hydrated. Around 20% of our daily fluid requirements come from foods we eat, the rest we need to get from water and other healthy beverages. It is recommended to have 8 glasses of water daily and more in hot months. Drinking plenty of water and consuming fluids is ideal during summer.

-    Drinking Tea. Tea is the second best drink for hydration after water. Lipton Clear Green without milk and sugar is a 0 calorie beverage and is a great hydration choice. Each cup of this delicious green tea refreshes and hydrates you enabling you to boost your energy levels and enjoy your day to the full.

-    Eating Water-rich Fruits and Vegetables: You could also stay hydrated by eating water-rich fruits and vegetables. Lettuce, oranges and apples are some examples of high water content foods.
