Hosts It's Second Resident Artist Michael Rice

Irish Ceramic Artist Michael Rice, will be exhibiting creations inspired by classical pottery that are highly contemporary, made from clay incorporating Emirate Sand from the 20th of May till the 20th of June at the Hotel's Lobby

Dubai, UAE –After the success of the first Resident Artist exhibition with Michel Bizet, Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre hotel is honored to announce the commencement of the second Pullman Resident Artist with Irish Ceramic Artist Michael Rice. 

Awed by the way nature molds and changes the environment and things over time, Michael Rice has been on the hunt to perfect the methods that will “resonate with a timeless quality, with a feeling of a genesis beyond the constructed and manufactured,” as he describes the driving factor of his work.

With those pieces, he seeks to create a presence in each item by making works not bound by time, culture or place, crossing between the present and the past, with striking visuals that leave viewers with feelings of familiarity.

Michael Rice's work with Ceramic, one of the oldest forms of art, molds pieces into contemporary works through form and symmetry, creating beautifully aesthetic pieces that tell stories through an ancient medium for modern times.

“This is another exciting collaboration that we are looking forward to launching with Michael Rice, CASPAIOU, Dubai International Art Centre, and Repton School Dubai,” commented Mr. Laurent Chaudet, General Manager of Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre Hotel. “The Art Initiative that we have commenced with Michel Bizet last March is growing with new artists showcasing and each of the upcoming projects is different and unique, and we are really looking forward to the development of this project further.”

Michael Rice's Exhibition will run for a month starting May 20th. The opening night, hosted on June 1st, will see Michael Rice creating an original piece with the help of the guests.

“I will create a thrown form on the potter's wheel that inspired by classical ceramics. It will be created using clay that incorporates Emirati sand, to give it extra stability and strength,” commented Michael Rice on the piece he will be making during the opening night.“Creating ceramics on the wheel is a very fluid process and I can start with an idea or a drawing abut divert from this if the moment takes me.”

Michael Rice will be accompanied with the evening's special guest, solo flute player Roland Bryce, at 7 PM at the Pullman Dubai Deira City Centre hotel lobby.
