In response to the latest cyber-attack to eBay's database, containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data which has been compromised. Trend Micro, a global developer of online security solutions, has released a blog urging that eBay customers immediately change their password on their account.

Early details have revealed that these attackers were then able to leverage those accounts to access an eBay database that contained customer information. Specifically:
•Customer name

•Encrypted password
•Email address
•Physical address
•Phone number
•Date of birth

With these pieces of information, would be thieves have a better head start to stealing new identities. With the ongoing spate of data breaches like this, it's all the more important to try and use unique passwords for each site.

For more information on this situation, please see Vice President of Security Research Rik Ferguson's blog posted over at his Countermeasures blog.

If you would like to speak with a Trend Micro expert on the security breach, please let me know and I will coordinate communication.
