•    20 products and 51 projects shortlisted for the final round of the competitions
•    Awards Ceremony to take place during INDEX International Design Exhibition and workspace at INDEX exhibitions on 19th May, 2014

Dubai, May 11, 2014 – The projects and products that have made it to the final round of the Middle East and North Africa Interior Design Awards and of the INDEX and workspace at INDEX Product Design Awards have been announced today by dmg events. Out of more than one hundred submissions, the jury has shortlisted 51 projects and 20 products, among which 21 winners will be recognised. Winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on 19th May 2014, the opening day of INDEX and workspace at INDEX exhibitions. 

The two competitions, in their second editions, will reward outstanding interior design projects across the Middle East and North Africa as well some of the world's best product designers with products on display at either INDEX and workspace at INDEX exhibitions.

The Middle East and North Africa Interior Design Awards
Open to interior designers, interior architects and architects from across the globe, the MENA Interior Design Awards rewards projects located in the Middle East and North Africa which have been completed between 1st January 2012 and 31st December 2013. 

From luxury hotels and restaurants to apartments, offices and clinics, the competition recognises the most outstanding projects within fifteen different categories including: Corporate Space Large (1,000 square meters and above); Corporate Space Small (under 1,000 square meters); Cultural/Institutional/Educational (Elementary/secondary educational facilities, colleges/universities, art museums, religious facilities, libraries);     Healthcare (Clinics, hospitals, medical facilities); Hospitality (bed & breakfasts, guest houses, hotels, resorts);     Hotels and Resorts: Luxury (5 stars properties only); Landscape Residential; Landscape Non-residential (municipal parks, mixed use outdoor spaces, golf courses, racing tracks); Municipal/Public Spaces (Government spaces, sports arenas, entertainment/performing arts centres); Recreational (Club houses, Spas, Fitness/Wellness Centres, Yachts); Residential Space Large (Villas, Mansions, Palaces); Residential Space Small (Apartments, townhouses); Restaurants (Restaurants, bars, lounges); and Retail (Stores, boutiques, showrooms).

Participant projects for each of the fifteen categories have been evaluated by a judging panel including Charles Leon, Director Charles Leon Associates; Annamaria Lambri, Interior Design Professor at the American University Dubai; Christopher Seymour, Partner & Head of Property & Social Infrastructure UAE at EC Harris; Khalid Shafar, Founder & Designer at KHALID SHAFAR; John Carolan, Design Director at KCA International; and Richard Wagner, Sustainability Consultant & Partner at Wanders Architects.

'We had received a great number of exceptional applications this year and we really appreciate the time and effort that had been put in these submissions. The selection was a tough process and we could only select a limited number of works to represent all categories of the Awards' said Khalid Shafar, Founder & Designer at KHALID SHAFAR.

The MENA Interior Design Awards is supported by Kansai Paint MENA, one of the world's top ten paint manufacturers and the Awards' Headline sponsor.

INDEX and workspace at INDEX Product Design Awards 
The Product Design Awards honour manufacturers and designers for excellence and innovation in product design for both the residential and commercial sectors. The competition is open exclusively to companies exhibiting at the 2014 editions of INDEX and workspace at INDEX exhibitions, and covers a varied range of awards categories.

The jury has selected 7 winning products from the 20 short listed entries, taking into consideration different elements such as choice of materials, design innovation, environmental impact and functionality. On 19th May 2014, the most innovative products for each of the following categories will be announced: Bathroom, Decorative Accessory, Desks and Tables, Furniture - Residential, Kitchen, Lighting, Outdoor Furniture and Furnishings, Retail Furniture and Accessories, Seating, Surfaces and Finishes, Technology, Screens, Partitions and Moveable Walls and Textiles. 

“The 20 products that we have shortlisted among the hundreds that were submitted, respond to all the criteria that were established as parameters for the awards.  We all agreed that these products represent the excellence in product design and are a perfect example of product innovation,” commented one of the members of the jury, Rob Canning, Retail Area Manager at Four Frontiers.

Annamaria Lambri, Interior Design Professor at the American University Dubai, and Nadine Bitar, Director at Placemaking, are also part of the judging panel.
