Dubai to host 6th Fazza International Wheelchair Basketball Championships - IWBF West Asian Championship 2014 from 10-15 May 2014

Over 136 participants from 8 countries to compete in wheelchair basketball event

Dubai, 29 April 2014: After hosting a series of exciting sporting events earlier this year, Dubai will once again host the prestigious 6th Fazza International

Wheelchair Basketball Championships – IWBF West Asian Championship 2014 from 10 May 2014 at the Al Ahli Club in Dubai.
Organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center and the Dubai Club for the Disabled under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,

Crown Prince of Dubai, the Championships will host participants from eight countries including the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq and KSA.

Thani Juma Berregad - Chairman of the Dubai Club for the Disabled and head of the organising committee for the Fazza Championships for the Disabled said: “We are thrilled to host what will be another exciting edition of the Fazza Championship for Wheelchair Basketball.

“Dubai is building its repute as a sporting destination of choice and we are extremely grateful to HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai for his continued support of this event.”

Souad Darwish, Director of Championships added: “The Fazza Championship for Wheelchair Basketball has grown in stature and has achieved a more international flavor.
“Dubai is playing a key role in encouraging sports in the UAE and a sporting event for people with disabilities remains priority for the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center.

Dr. Omar Hindawi, executive specialist, policies and regulations – Dubai Sports Council added that judges would receive special training prior to the start of the championships to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest rules and regulations laid down by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
Majid Abdullah Al Usaimi, Championship Director said: “The championship this year will have a strong technical mechanism to ensure more accurate results and add to Fazza's portfolio of elite sporting events. We would like to wish all the contestants the best of luck.”
