Emirates Post Group welcomed the Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), Mr. Bashar Abdulrahman Hussein, who is on a UAE tour that includes Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The Director General held a meeting with officials of the Group, including Mr. Fahad Al Hosani, Acting CEO of EPG, Mr. Ibrahim bin Karam, Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Abdullah Al Ashram, CEO of Emirates Post, Mr. Khaled Shahdoor, Executive Director of Information Technology, Mr. Abdullah Saqr Al Suwaidi, Director of International Relations and Mr. Abdul Latif Miskin, Director of Training and Coordinator for Arab Countries.

Mr. Fahad Al Hosni, while welcoming the UPU delegation, stressed the importance of the meeting which would boost further the relations among member countries of the UPU, especially in the exchange of postal expertise and postal sector upgrade. He said Emirates Post Group was preparing to attend the UPU Strategy Meeting to be held in Ivory Coast from October 14 to 15, 2014.  He welcomed close collaboration with the Universal Postal Union to make international postal services more efficient and quality-driven, as part of the Group's strategic vision.

The two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in postal matters, and highlighted the importance of e-commerce and ways to develop it further.  It was revealed the number of international transactions in parcels during 2012 increased to 61 billion parcels, and by 2020 expected to jump to the value of $ 2 trillion.
Mr. Bashar and his delegation reviewed key issues related to the regional development plan for the Arab Region 2013-2016. He hailed the achievements of Emirates Post Group, reflected in the strategies for postal operations designed to enhance competitiveness and customer satisfaction.

The delegation toured the automated sorting centre in Dubai where it was welcomed by Mr. Sultan Al Midfa, Executive Director for Postal Operations and Mr. Abdullah Kalander, Manager for sorting centers. The delegation praised the quality and efficiency of services along highest international standards.
At the end of the tour, the Director General thanked the UAE for its support to the Organisation of African Countries and the Arab Group, and hailed the country's advancement and strong infrastructure, by way of world-class ports and airports, which have made it a key transit point for international shipping and aviation.
