Dubai, April 13, 2014: Arabian Center witnessed an evening of festivities and camaraderie on April 12th as the mall celebrated Vishu, the astronomical New Year's Day with traditional gaiety. The festival was celebrated with customary fervor and vivacity, looking ahead to a season of peace and prosperity.
Co-hosting the ceremony was Lulu Hypermarket at Arabian Center, who put up a grand display of auspicious articles like rice, fruits, gold and flowers tastefully arranged in brass vessels, symbolising hope and promise. The mall's visitors not only had an opportunity to connect with the age-old traditions of the Indian state Kerala, but also had a chance to win fabulous prizes on the joyous occasion.
Heightening the festival mood was a road show hosted by Hit FM from 7pm to 9 pm. Also on hand to entertain guests with Kerala's rich cultural repertoire or Nrithya Shilpam was a special performance of the state's premier dance forms like Mohiniyattam and Thiruvadira Kalli. Shinkari Melam or traditional drumming act and a giant Styrofoam elephant decorated in the traditional style was the highlight of the evening.
The festival of Vishu falls on the first day of the Malayalam month of ‘Medam'. Worldwide, Malayalis celebrate the day to usher in good health, long life and prosperity into their homes by preparing the 'Vishu kani.'
